Theres no looking back %%First Name%%,
Face shots at The Remarkables yesterday, snow to the lakefront on the eve of the
American Express Queenstown Winter Festival
. Magic. The Remarkables has 15cms of new snow, Coronet 10cm.
The Queenstown Winter Fest kicks off tomorrow night with the opening part and fireworks display. Some events to keep an eye out for are; the showing of Warren Millers 60th movie - Dynasty, the festival street parade, featuring many of NZ's Olympian and World Champ snow riders, Snow Sports Awards, Mardi Gras, Dodgeball Champs, Dog Derby & Dog Barking champs, bikes on snow and, day on the bay, including the Birdman comp. Classic stuff. Queenstown is the place to be.
But wait, TC and Snowfarm are open and all other white rooms open in Wanaka this weekend. TC has the least snow with 40cms. If you know TC though you will know that 40cms is ample and this is not light fluff, this is 34cms of consolidated with 10cms of news snow, so looking great. Cardrona has great snow conditions and if you get there early there are complimentary bubbles at the McDougalls Quad.
Ohau had 30cms of new snow from this last storm and will join Dobson open this weekend in the Mackenzie County. Dobson is touting a massive 1.6m snow base already, the most from any open mountain.
Hutt continues its great run with fantastic on-piste conditions and Porter opens tomorrow with almost a one metre base!! For all of you who support lesser rugby teams, this is really good for this time of year, in fact the best this millennium. Lyford is also open with a solid snow base. (They've also improve the road).
Turoa is open with great riding on the lower slopes. The repairs of Tower 9 of the High Noon Express are going well. Eta 2 1/2 weeks. Happy Valley is opening on Saturday. It looks like snow is forecast, a blessing and a curse. Don’t forget the
Ohakune Mardi Gras
in Ohakune this Saturday. After a day on the slopes, party late with the Hot Grits, Autozamm, Ivy Lies, Dane Rumble & General Lee.
Get into it, have fun and be safe.
