Been up the slopes yet %%First Name%%?

What a fantastic week!! Great weather, great on piste riding, school holidays, it's a great way to wear out the kids!!

It was a week of kids events at both ends of the country with the Mini Games at Whakapapa and the Junior Slopestyle Open at Snowpark challenging kids challenging kids as young as 5 with different Freeski events. Parents in the know right across the country had their kids in school holiday programmes. If you’re near Queenstown the Streets Mini Shred is on for kids aged 16 and under at The Remarkables this weekend.

Piste riders and park and pipe enthusiasts are having a great season but big mountain riders and those in love with finding the pow are out of luck as there has been no significant snowfalls this month so far.

Ruapehu is fully open now with good on piste riding conditions top to bottom. The West Ridge and Far West T-bar are now open but mainly off-piste at this stage. The Knoll Cafe is planning to open its doors around the third week of August. Tomorrow afternoon the dream run of weather will come to an end, at least until Monday. The good news is that Ruapehu is due a top-up of snow this weekend.

Rainbow has had 30cm of snow... all season. Due to some brilliant snowmaking and grooming they will be opening their t-bar this weekend. Saturday’s weather is for increasing winds and snow showers, Sunday is the day to head up. In contrast Lyford and Hanmer are experiencing great snowpacks and possible the best off-piste riding in the country.

Mid Canterbury is starting to look pretty lean. Don’t get me wrong, (I’m one of the parents in the know) the on-piste riding at Porters and Mt Hutt is superb. Temple is currently on-hold and Cheeseman is open to ski week bookings and members only. Craigieburn & BR have “variable early season conditions”. Mt Olympus is the pick of the ‘Canterbury club fileds’ with an average snow depth of 85cm.

Further south is holding up a lot better, good early season snow is still in perfect conditions as the temperature have rarely climbed above 0 degrees. If you’re looking for pow and packed pow this is the place to go. Sunday is the day to be there with snow in the forecast for the next few days.

The Southern Lakes are continuing their dream run of weather on on-piste conditions. If you want to try your hand at an open, fun jam style event, the Electric Hip Attack is on at Snowpark on Saturday. If you’re after a unique experience, night riding planned for Friday and Saturday nights at Coronet and on Saturday at Snowpark.
